Wythall Lodge No. 5665 is a Freemasons’ lodge of the Province of Worcestershire, serving north Worcestershire and the neighbouring parts of Birmingham and Solihull. If you are looking for the Freemasons in north Worcestershire, we would be glad to hear from you.
A Worcestershire lodge on the Birmingham border
The boundaries of Masonic Provinces follow the old county lines rather than the modern map, and Wythall Lodge is a good example of it. The Lodge bears the name of Wythall, a village on the southern edge of Birmingham in Worcestershire, though it now meets a little to the east at Knowle. It belongs to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Worcestershire, under the United Grand Lodge of England.
Our members are drawn from across this border country—from north Worcestershire, from Birmingham and from Solihull alike—and range in age from their twenties to their eighties. What unites them is not a postcode but a wish to be part of something older and larger than themselves: a society of friends, guided by the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.
The Province of Worcestershire administers the Craft lodges of the historic county from its offices at Bromsgrove, and Wythall Lodge is one of their number. If you live in the area and have wondered about the Freemasons, you need not have a connection to the county town or to the Province to enquire—only an interest, and a willingness to ask.
Our history
Wythall Lodge was consecrated on 9 September 1937. For much of its life it met at the Masonic Hall in Kings Heath—the Moseley Masonic Hall—before moving to its present home at Knowle Masonic Centre. A good deal of the Lodge’s early history, including its consecration papers and founders’ jewels, is preserved in the Worcestershire Masonic Library and Museum.
For nearly ninety years the Lodge has carried on quietly doing what lodges do best: making good men better, and enjoying one another’s company while doing so. You can read more of the Lodge’s story on our home page.
